being a shut in
Nov. 13th, 2006 09:19 amit seems Family Guy is cutting back on the fake-flashbacks and increasing the just-plain-gross factor. Which I tend to prefer. So that's good.
Reg got a few Season 8 Simpsons episodes, including the one with John Waters as a toy collector. Season 8 is about when I stopped scheduling my life around Simpsons, so I have only seen about the first half.
As the weather was absolutely horrible and Reg is kind of ill, I spent the weekend in a bit of a Buffy and Angel haze. I finished season 3 of the former and got to season 2 of the latter. I am marvelling anew at how goddamn good season 2 is. It was the season I started actually watching it (and Buffy with 5) and it was so much more compelling than anything I'd ever seen before. I'd say since, but I've seen season 4. Anyway watching it all at once, rather than one week at a time, feels far superior. You get to feel the descent into madness and all that. Funny how each season a main character "goes dark." Or at least, you know, beige.

Sep. 21st, 2005 11:30 amMarge: Homer, when are you going to give up this crazy sugar scheme?
Homer: Never, Marge. Never. I can't live the button-down life like you. I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles. Sure, I might offend a few of the bluenoses with my cocky stride and musky odors -- oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "City Fathers" who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about "What's to be done with this Homer Simpson?"

I put some books on hold at the Library but I got the branches mixed up. Regardless after my hold on them was gone, the books were still there. So I got like six Anastasia books. I read these all at the appropriate age, but they're still so charming. Last night I read Anastasia Krupnick and Anastasia, Ask Your Analyst. Trying to read them in order, you see. I wish they'd had the two in between, but well, they did not. Next time.
And then it was off to Best Buy to get the new oddly shaped Season Six box set. Apparently if you fear having a human head on your DVD shelf you can call a number to get a proper boring box, but once you take off the Homer packaging it's much nicer than the old boxes. Although they still seem to have failed to fix the closed captioning debacle. That is to say, the subtitle button that most DVD players does nothing, you have to go through the menu. Language->captioning->english. Good lord that's annoying, but at least you only have to do it the one time. So we watched Bart do Rear Window, Lisa vs. Winona Ryder, a clip show about romance, and of course Sideshow Bob run for mayor. (It's not as good as the Cape Fear episode but it does have the Rush Limbaugh ripoff.)
And I can't forget Itchy & Scratchy Land. Oh my god, if I wasn't already in love with Schwartzwelder I would be now. His apocalyptic-cum-Lord of the flies vision of the perfect theme park for kids is just, you know, perfect.
Tonight is more fun with Simpsons and Lois Lowry. I could just die you know?

Apr. 26th, 2005 10:58 amI'm still kind of sick, I guess. But I'm almost hungry again and feeling a lot calmer about things. Except for the parts of my life which have been sucking for the past two years. Oh well.
I got home and watched the last few episodes of Season Five Simpsons with commentary, ate Domino's (which is a lot better than I remember it four years ago) and I caught up on Deadwood. And then I had some laudanum* and went to bed. I woke up with Weird Al's "Living with a hernia" in my head. How annoying, as I haven't heard the song in literally ten years.
* Yeah, I wish. That's the only good thing about The Past. There's no plumbing and no electricity and no cars and no heating and no lights, not even mentioning corsets and no women's rights whatsoever... but damn, the narcotics were so readily available.

Mar. 22nd, 2005 09:29 amI read Miss last night. So fucking good. Also started watching The Thin Man but my jaw started to ache again. Oh, stupid pain, you make me so boring.
And that Simpsons episode where the kids sing the Armour Hot Dogs song. And Lisa asks if the family knows any songs not from commercials, and they all start singing "I FEEL LIKE CHICKEN TONIGHT". Always cut from syndication so I hadn't seen it years.
Eat club tonight?
edit: at Cauelita's 8pm

Mar. 6th, 2005 09:11 pmI haven't had sex since Wednesday. OMFG.
This weekend was pretty decent, just a lot of hanging out at our apartment, which needs a cool nickname on the order of Cult of the Red Door. I guess since I'm the only founding member to remain in Seattle I can steal it, and in fact did steal it for phoenix fest last year.
Friday night it was
sidspencer,
girlstyle,
quent, and then following,
hotcrab,
baroof,
fritz_da_kat, and
doyouhaveaflag. There was just generally goofiness, indian leg wrestling and people measuring their heads and shit. Nice and good and fun and chill and calming. That sort of thing is my bag, baby. Also, I'd made bread, and everyone fuckin' raved about it.
Next day was a comedy of errors culminating in not going out at all, but fetching a bunch of people over for a while. Eventually it was just us and Steve and Patrick watching Simpsons till 6am. I woke up at like 8:30 and took some advil and went back to sleep, woke up at 11:30 in just some horrible head/back pain, which has subsided to a certain degree, but not nearly enough. I was in a haze with the muscle relaxers I took to take care of it, but we made it out to Cedar's anyway. Not really planning on staying up much longer here though.
