Springtime pics on my walk around Ballard/Loyal Heights

I sang "Love is a battlefield", "I Believe In A Thing Called Love", "Do You Wanna", and "One Night In Bangkok." Sketchy guys kept wandering to our table to hit on Asa's coworker+friend who joined us, and I was terrified one would do so with me, but Reg kept dancing with me when I sang.

Cool place. Except for the amazing number of posters warning against illegal drug use. Pics of them and one of the aforementioned girls here. But it's in Ballard so I'm sure we'll show up next week.

Hit up Thaiku with Douglas, his roommate Destiny, [livejournal.com profile] heathynn and [livejournal.com profile] mxtx last night. There's a secret smoking room in the back, but it stopped raining during happy hour so only the first two used it. Afterwards everyone else got conned convinced to go to the movies, but I stayed home and developed a great headache. And also two awesome mix CDs, I think I'll call them "Get High* and Put On." The first one is just great "power ballads", of the indie rock persuasion (like, the Cure and Arcade Fire and such). The second is techno/electronic downtempo (think Herbaliser and the Dining Rooms). So they should be played in that order - one lifts you up, one puts you down. I'll probably post them tonight.

* I obviously mean High on Life.

Saturday evening Dougie and Joe dropped by, and we took them to BalMar. They liked, but I had been drinking more mojitos and the third drink of the night kind of spoke to my stomach. It said "Stomach, let's produce a looot of acid. I mean, a loooot of acid." So I kind of had to run home after only half my drink and swig the Pepto. Of course an hour later I had another mojito, although only half of what I'd been making earlier.

Not much else happened, they left to go to some party and we went to EN, left, picked up Kim and Ashley and went back. And then back home. I read comics for a few hours then went to sleep. I convinced Reg that instead of getting a new liquor cabinet, we could simply use the fucking cabinet I got years ago that he was using to keep printer paper in. We re-arranged things and voila. Next day I woke up and made bacon, cut up an apple and some Beecher's cheese. Then we went for a walk. The plan was for me to buy Reg's late Valentine's present; originally I was going to get him ski boots, but he decided he'd rather have something from Blackbird.

But first we bought tea. I hadn't been in the tea house before. It's pretty nice, although there's no sofas or anything cozy like that. We bought 3 kinds of tea: white, green/jasmine, and oolong. I can't remember if I mentioned that he bought a teapot here for my Valentine's present. Although he gets a lot more use out of it than I do. And so then we treaded on to Blackbird, where we hadn't been since the remodeling. All you guys who have big chests, btw, the large and x-large sale racks have a lot of shirts and crap. He almost got a pair of pants but at the last minute we got this hoodie instead. I'm not a big fan of designer hoodies but I do like them if they have designs on them. This one had the crest of the designer or something.

Then we went to Second Ascent for a while, and then the Farmer's Market. Or vice versa. I got these "caveman" snack bars that look pretty good. If I hadn't spent 80 bucks at Fred Meyer the previous day I'm sure we would have dropped more cash, but as it was Reg got a Boar's Head hot dog and that was that. We sat at a cafe for a while then headed home. It was really nice temperature-wise but of course it started drizzling as we headed home, and a few minutes later it was pouring. So we just headed to Best Buy and Target to pick up a few things. Reg got Season One of Mr. Show, but we could only watch about 15 minutes of the first episode. It was so fucking horrible.

Just came back from Dandelion Botanical. What a cute little shop. Just hundreds of oils, candles and soaps and other smellish things. And also homemade "bath bombs" at $4 a ball.

Seattle has two alt-weeklies, because we're just so alt. You know, free papers devoted to a more liberal viewpoint than you get in the standard 25ยข papers, plus more local arts coverage and all that. Anyway, I used to read The Stranger only because they were brash and funny and more fun to read. But lately I've noticed that they care more about that than actually, you know, writing news. And also the capitol hill focus above all others is annoying. I still think their arts editors have better taste in movies and music, but the Seattle Weekly is just more interesting in the real news department. I don't know, maybe I'm just getting er jaded of irony or something. I do hate their absolute disdain of Ballard*, which is to say, pretending it doesn't exist. The Stranger may be too cool for Ballard but you know they secretly dig it.

* Ballard is the neighborhood I recently moved to, it has a lot of old people and blue collar workers and actual aged hipsters. And Stygian Triplets on skateboards.

I accidentally downloaded an R&B cover ("smooth") of "I believe in a thing called love" which sucks pretty bad, but it leads me to believe that, hey, if The Darkness re-did every single shitty R&B love song ever, they would rock me like a hurricane or something. Anyway if any aspiring hardcore musicians want to do this, I'd love to hear the results.

Yesterday I took an early bus that stopped a few blocks out of my way, but it was good b/c I got to walk down Market Street and see all the fun things that were the reason* I wanted to move to Ballard rather than Capitol Hill in the first place. There are, granted, high schoolers instead of hipsters, but for some reason they don't bother me as much. Probably because I know they won't be drinking in the bars as much.

Anyway I was all gushy when I got home about it, and then started testing out the toaster oven with, yes, toasted cheese sammiches. I made three of them. And then four pieces of toast. Well, granted I gave some to Reg, but still. I threw some garbage out and then made rice while watching Season 5 Buffy. And then I went to sleep after reading a couple more chapters of the Cocaine book.

* also the one bedrooms are more bang-for-buck
