• I keep saying Brandon Flowers is like the new Freddie Mercury, which led [livejournal.com profile] velvet to say, "Brandon Flowers is the Jesus Queen of Latter Day Saints."

• I've sent a few of you this interview about the Police, but it really must be read to believed. Even if you don't like the Police at all - actually, especially if you don't like the Police and/or Sting, you should read it. They basically go for each others' throats and it's quite like watching Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? I wish there was one for Morrissey and Marr, or Jason Pierce and Pete Kember.

edit:

Revolver: Synchronicity II is easily the best song about the Loch Ness monster to ever appear on a Number One album. Explain.

Sting: It's about two separate but synchronistic events. One, the Loch Ness monster...

Stewart Copeland: ...which is synchronous with...

Sting: um... my penis?

Stewart Copeland: Yes, yes, yes! A little boasting there, perhaps; a little self-aggrandisation, but what the hell, we'll let that slide. I remember we argued about the tempo of this one.

Revolver: Wait a minute. Sting, what's the Loch Ness monster really synchronous with?

Stewart Copeland: His penis, he answered that question.

Sting: Yes, my dick! It's another monstrous, hidden thing from Northern Britain.

Stewart Copeland: That comes out of the slime and that no one has ever seen, or believes in!

Sting: And the Japanese are fascinated by it!

Stewart Copeland: And a photograph of which would be worth a lot of money!

• Every time I end a contract I have a huge collection of mp3s that I haven't always listened through. I keep meaning to sort through them and failing. I spent about an hour doing so yesterday, mostly just deleting stuff I already have downloaded - or that Reg has - and importing stuff into iTunes and backing it up on my external hard drive.

• On that note, until yesterday I had no Explosions in the Sky on my machine. This horrifies me and I am making up for it.

• I got a Sansa Clip thing for music, which is cool in that it allows ratings but I don't have it in auto-sync mode, so I can't get the ratings to import back over. Or maybe I'm just missing something. Like a manual, since it was refurb.

• I really should use headphones when I'm mixing music, as my speakers are pieces of shite.

Sometimes I'll hear a song, just walking around, or in a bar, or on the radio, and it kills me.

Sometimes I'll hear a song on my headphones and it will kill me.

But sometimes I'll have heard the song before, in the opposite situation, and it did nothing.

I wonder what makes it work.

my thoughts were fragments chasing the main theme:

UNDERWORLD IS SO SO GOOD.

Reg and I are all vol'd up for dB fest. He's actually going to be driving people to/from the airport. I am slightly jealous, but I wouldn't really know what to say - and I don't really like talking to people while I drive anyway. This weekend is going to be smashing.

I cannot think of a single band except for Wolf Parade where the music is so good the singer's annoying voice doesn't get to me.

Except for the Bloc Party's remixes.

hahaha.

Mmmm, this Landing Gear album rocks. Like Pat Benatar by men.

I've decided that I like Transatlanticism after all, although, not quite as a proper DCfC album, just the more depressing version. But yeah, it's good.

I listened to a bunch of albums I'd downloaded yesterday, but I forget... hm. cyann & ben's Spring was far too mellow, as was Camera Obscura's latest. Or should I say "twee." I hate that twee shit, you've no idea. I rather liked the Deep Concentration - Wreckin' the Floor compilation, as well as Faultline's Your Love Means Everything. And Elefant's Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid is enjoyable.

Listened to, let's see, the new Air album yesterday. Everyone is saying it's not as good as Moon Safari, which may be true but honestly I think Air is fucking great once in a while and mostly just nice background music. So yeah basically.

The Deltron 3030 Instrumentals, on the other hand, are really really great background music. Even if you are inhuman didn't like the album this is great.

I acquired the Pet Shop Boys musical, "Closer to Heaven." Er, just the soundtrack/original cast recording. It's nice. I mean, mostly it's just a bunch of PSB songs re-recorded by people who can actually sing, which means it's fairly silly, but there's a few new tracks and whatnot. I still like the originals better, but if you're a PSB addict like me you could look into it.

I think I was playing Still Life last night during a booty call, but I could be wrong. If so, it was rather apropos. Yeah.

Your Majesty by the Anniversary is pretty good. Poppy rock kinda like the Smiths, fun and jangly guitar rock, not too hard but still introspective and moody. And "The Siren Sings" still makes me want to cry, I put that on 2002's holiday "cheer" album.

Steve claims the new Zero 7 is just like the last one, but as that came out before I was familiar with the concept of dl'ing whole albums I can't concur. I also can't compare the new Modest Mouse with any of the previous ones for that reason. Both of them are acceptable to the point that I won't delete them, but neither of them are as good as the aforementioned, or the new Muse (which is actually from last year). Absolution is actually more Radiohead than Radiohead in some ways. Pretend Radiohead kept making kickass paranoid rock songs and you've got Muse. Why is their fucking show sold out a month in advance?
