How come no one was able to predict the Tsunami that hit Indonesia? You would have expected Sylvia Browne to have a dramatic moment in the streets where she clasps both hands over her head and screams visions of mutilated corpses washing up on Indonesian shores. But we didn't. That happened to no one.

And the more I think about it, the more I realize that the simple reason that these kinds of things never happen, is because that would mean that there is some kind of divine, intelligent, ordered structure to the world. If one person could have foreseen this tragedy, and warned others about it, it would mean that somewhere, someone had planned for it to happen beforehand. It would mean that life isn't random, that things happen for a reason...

We FEEL things. If we're feeling down, and sad, and helpless in the world, we'll look for things. Maybe we'll see a pretty butterfly twitter past us. Well, that's IT then!! It's a sign! What are the odds that a pretty butterfly would suddenly decide to fly past us at this exact moment?!? That must be a sign that God loves us and wants us to be happy. What else could it be??

So I just wanted to clear up to anyone who may have been confused by my post yesterday that I'm not actually a pagan. I just think that the shortest-day-of-the-year thing is more interesting than fake-jesus-birthday. Of course we know that the days are going to get longer again, observable phenomena and all, so the pagan shit isn't as cool. I mean, sure, the orgies are great, but it's not like the sun won't come up if you don't spend all night eating and drinking and fucking. Although, again, that's a lot more fun than exchanging gifts with your family and watching Uncle Rory make an ass out of himself.

But whatever, I'm going to be hanging out with a bunch of Jews at a Chinese restaurant.

yeah, also I have these weird beliefs. As does Jeremy. But really half the time I just say things to shock people out of complacency. Like when I say it should be ok to murder your children till they're able to read and write.

I think people shouldn't have boyfriends or girlfriends or whatever until they're able to sustain a lifestyle without one. It doesn't have to be a great lifestyle or whatever, but I had immense trouble in college dating boys who had no desire to control me, whereas the ones who did, well, our relationships were much more successful. Of course when I actually developed my own personal life outside of boyfriends, going back to these kinds of guys was social suicide. And lots of people do this in their teens and twenties, and even worse beyond it.

I think it should be legal to paintball people who break traffic laws. Their cars, rather. Fuck cops and their quotas, they just look for people with lots of different colored SPLATS on the cars, and that's who they ticket. Granted the problem would be people who paintball legally, and people who paintball just to be fuckers, but that can be arranged by licensing the paintballers. It's utterly foolish when, in theory, any idiot can remember how traffic laws work. That is, it's utterly foolish to waste police manpower on this.

Also, serious about the gun show. Even if you are a tree-hugging gun hater, don't you want to see how the other half lives?

i have extreme views.

I don't actually tell people about most of my beliefs and views, unless it's something everyone can agree with - or at least my friends or so. But then I still scale it back unless I think people will take it as a joke. For example, I'm an atheist. Which is not really the majority, but everyone I know more or less. And they are seemingly mostly of the opinion that there is no god, but if you want to believe in god they can't stop you. Maybe they'll even go so far as to say believing in god is an outmoded concept. But no one wants to offend anyone, so they won't say that if you believe in god, you're a special brand of insane. They might even go so far as to say the Pope is a bad man, and yay for attendance worldwide being down, but few people say that Judeo-Christian-Islamic religions have done more harm than good throughout history. Or that their disintegration should be accelerated.

Anyway I'm not going to admit to anything else here. I'm well aware that most of the other things I think would get me labelled a crackpot unless I, for example, wrote it in a funny-rant-style. Besides, while my opinions are fairly extreme, they aren't exactly dear to my heart and I'd probably change them for whomever gave me enough money.

too much Sex and the City

I just read the First Chapter of the book the series was based on. It seems far more cynical and bitter about things than anything I've seen on the show. Although season 3 just started on HBO2, and I'm not sure what I think about it. Kind of hit and miss really. Which makes sense, I mean how many things are there to say about sex and relationships are there left to say?

Last night's episode was about bisexuals and gender roles, and how apparently people in their 20s are more flexible about that kind of thing. Which I can't argue with, as I believe people are all "bisexual". Which means I don't believe it's a valid label, unless you really actually have no preference. I suppose there are people who don't, but most "bisexuals" fuck either sex and date the opposite sex. Which more or less makes them straight in my book.

The main reason I'm watching it, though, is because Miranda reminds me of me, and it's frankly scary. Well, except that I have no career ambition whatsoever, but then I'm still "young."

Homosexual Marriage

I'm pretty much of the opinion that there's no reason for gays to be denied the same rights as straights to be miserable and have alimony payments and such. Although honestly the more I read about marriage laws, the more I think that the civil institution is just outdated. I mean I guess there still needs to be a mechanism in place for resultant children or whatnot, since you can't split them up like a record collection when you break up.

I tried not to be too Christian-specific, but what can you do.

[livejournal.com profile] herbaliser: I kind of like the idea of indoctrinating kids with the religion is stupid idea, and still sending them to church to fuck shit up
[livejournal.com profile] herbaliser: i'd be like "You have to behave in school, but church is FREE FOR ALL"
[livejournal.com profile] jimbojones: hahahahaha
[livejournal.com profile] jimbojones: maybe Laural will have kids after all
[livejournal.com profile] jimbojones: just to raise them to be ecclesiastical terrorists
