i have extreme views.

I don't actually tell people about most of my beliefs and views, unless it's something everyone can agree with - or at least my friends or so. But then I still scale it back unless I think people will take it as a joke. For example, I'm an atheist. Which is not really the majority, but everyone I know more or less. And they are seemingly mostly of the opinion that there is no god, but if you want to believe in god they can't stop you. Maybe they'll even go so far as to say believing in god is an outmoded concept. But no one wants to offend anyone, so they won't say that if you believe in god, you're a special brand of insane. They might even go so far as to say the Pope is a bad man, and yay for attendance worldwide being down, but few people say that Judeo-Christian-Islamic religions have done more harm than good throughout history. Or that their disintegration should be accelerated.

Anyway I'm not going to admit to anything else here. I'm well aware that most of the other things I think would get me labelled a crackpot unless I, for example, wrote it in a funny-rant-style. Besides, while my opinions are fairly extreme, they aren't exactly dear to my heart and I'd probably change them for whomever gave me enough money.

too much Sex and the City

I just read the First Chapter of the book the series was based on. It seems far more cynical and bitter about things than anything I've seen on the show. Although season 3 just started on HBO2, and I'm not sure what I think about it. Kind of hit and miss really. Which makes sense, I mean how many things are there to say about sex and relationships are there left to say?

Last night's episode was about bisexuals and gender roles, and how apparently people in their 20s are more flexible about that kind of thing. Which I can't argue with, as I believe people are all "bisexual". Which means I don't believe it's a valid label, unless you really actually have no preference. I suppose there are people who don't, but most "bisexuals" fuck either sex and date the opposite sex. Which more or less makes them straight in my book.

The main reason I'm watching it, though, is because Miranda reminds me of me, and it's frankly scary. Well, except that I have no career ambition whatsoever, but then I'm still "young."

Homosexual Marriage

I'm pretty much of the opinion that there's no reason for gays to be denied the same rights as straights to be miserable and have alimony payments and such. Although honestly the more I read about marriage laws, the more I think that the civil institution is just outdated. I mean I guess there still needs to be a mechanism in place for resultant children or whatnot, since you can't split them up like a record collection when you break up.

I know what you mean. For example, I don't normally bring these up on the first date:

* I think robots will eventually take over the earth.

* I want to have my head cut off and frozen when I die, in the hopes that someday, they will be able to transfer my consciousness into an advanced robot so that I can live again.

* I don't think there's that much difference between killing a baby and killing an unborn fetus. You might think that means that I think that you shouldn't kill unborn fetii, but you would be wrong.

* I think most of the trauma of child sexual abuse stems from how other people react to it, rather than the actual abuse itself.

* I think the United States should be broken up into a bunch of much smaller countries. The right of secession should be as culturally accepted as free speech, freedom of religion, and the right to vote.

* I think you should be able to sell babies for money. Organs too.

* I think it might be a good idea to pay stupid people to sterilize themselves.

* I don't see a really big difference between marriage and long-term prostitution. However, I think prostitution is a good thing.

* I welcome the advent of human clones, man-monkey hybrids, and talking dogs. God schmod, I want my monkey-man!

* Christianity, Islam, and other religions are mostly insidious mind virii that parasitize humanity like tapeworms in a pig.

It begins here.

I think the United States should be broken up into a bunch of much smaller countries.

I don't think it should necessarily, but I do have fun looking at the map and trying to figure out what countries would result if the US did splinter. Like you just know Texas and California would be their own countries....

1) Not robots necessarily, but certainly artificial life of some sort. Or really it'll prolly be some form of augmented human intelligence.

2) Actually unless you get hit by a bus or something, I think you'll prolly be able to make the transfer before the end of your natural life.

3) Shouldn't there be a bright line in the sand somewhere? Certainly killing a 12 year old wouldn't be OK?

4) I'm not sure on this one. Elaborate?

5) Actually wouldn't it be more fun if the 50 states got together every couple of years and kicked one off the island? Sorry Alamabma, but with those test scores we simply couldn't have you around anymore. BOOT!

6) Same issue here as #3 when it comes to babies. Organs I'm ok with though.

7) Why stop with stupid people? How about ugly people too?

8) Well, certainly some marriages, or maybe even a lot of them. I'm still young and stupid idealistic enough to dream though. Stop looking at me like that!

9) I'll trade you a kidney for your monkey man. I've got one to spare.

10) Luckily, by most accounts, we're slowly but surely killing the disease. Give us a hundred years or so.

I used to want to kill all the stupid people, but then I realized that would be cutting off a valuable food source.

Balkanize NOW

I couldn't agree with you more on most of these posts. Back in the early 90s, after Eastern Europe split away from the Soviets, I was preaching balkanization of the USA to anyone that would listen. The world would be a better place if the US broke up into 5 or 6 smaller countries. You know, the right of secession WAS written firmly in the constitution up until the Civil War. Damned Lincoln.

Bring on the clones

Bring on the robots, clones and monkey-men. I can't wait for 'em. I believe that one guy was right in that you will be able to move your mind into a robot within your natural lifetime. Though that brings up the debate of whether the robot-you is merely a carbon copy of you or actually you.

While I wouldn't be able to tell a difference between you and your robot-self, YOU, the conscience you, would die with your organic brain. I'm not implying that there is an actual "soul" that is stapled firmly to the flesh or anything, in fact I'm a devout atheist, just that I don't believe a software backup of your mind/ego/brain/etc would not include the conscious that we currently know as crasch. Unless, of course, there was a way to transfer your brain to the robot body and slowly replace each cell in it with electronics.

God, save me from your followers

I've often thought of religion as a virus, or an extremely buggy bit of software, myself. I like your analogy better. We are so close to becoming techno-gods ourselves and the biggest thing keeping us from doing it is some people's fear of their invisible friend who lives in the sky. I do so hope that those people will get over this fear so the rest of us can go on living.

And will someone please save us from the Muslims for fucks sake?! Talk about an insidious virus. That is one damned buggy bit of code right there. An entire religion that pines for the simple, 13th century, way of life. While Christianity slowly loses converts, Islam quickly gobbles them up. I am at a loss on what to do about the Muslim problem, short of implementing the Serbian method. Consumerism maybe? It worked on the Soviets. Something NEEDS to be done about them and soon for they are the Barbarians at the gate, to our Rome.

Is money subversive enough to change your opinion or just your stated opinion?
