Communism is not naive at all. It did very well take into consideration the human nature and in this process it tried to suppress it using terror. It is a common misconception that communism ideas are generally good, but they were badly implemented in the various communist regimes: communism ideas themselves entail murder. What you see in North Korea nowadays is successful, by-the-book communism. What you have in China now, is failed communism.
By "Successful" I meant successfully implemented, not good for the people. What happened in countries like China is that at a certain point, the leaders have realized that if they stay by the book, their country would collapse in famine and backwardness. So a few of them (luckily) said: screw Marx, Lenin, Mao and the rest, let's allow people to get rich, but we keep political power and this would also bring us financial power.
Noth Korea however has achieved what all communist leaders have wanted: the complete subordination if the individual to the state.
