I read Pink Slip Party at Border's (part last week, rest today). It was... ok. Slightly better than mediocre, but maybe only because I can oh-so-relate to the subject matter. Anyway. Now I want to write a novel that's better than that but still girly enough to make money? I think for now I'll just work on the one I've got. I haven't fucking touched it since, oh, god, Jan 27th. I was thinking about it the other day, it was so hard to get to that point, cos like, the beginning is boring, of course. But now I'm at the EXCITING part, I think, so here we go again.

I think it is fairly easy to write chick-lit.
"daffy single girl tries to make sense of her life. Has friend/mother/lesbian who keeps things in perspective. Meets Mr. Wrong, has wacky adventure. Meets Mr. Right. They live happily ever after."
Add a pink cover with some shoes/purses/cocktail glasses on the cover and ta-da you have a hit.

I have two ideas for killing the genre:
1) write about a girl who actually schemes to find a first husband, and how well being a gold-digger works out
2) write about the sensible friend whose inner monologue is constantly telling her to smack the daffy girl

1.I think it has been done, it is called, "Bergdorf Blondes". It just came out and is kind of amusing. Plum Sykes is the author and a writer for Vogue.
2.I like that idea. Have the sensible friend be the star of the novel and how she smacks the friend around and then takes the Mr. Right that was supposedly attracted to the daffy friend.
They run off to Zanzibar of Tahiti and enjoy beverages.
Daffy friend left in therapy.
