I haven't had a gay male friend in way too long, unless you count Holger (who is gay in all ways but the fashion sense and preferring men. Of course if we count him we have to count the gay straight Romanian too, but he's far too popular for me to co-opt).

Really since straight men basically want nothing to do with me, and vice versa, I may as well just find someone who'll watch Buffy and musicals with me unironically. I'll probably think him gorgeous, and he'll say the same to me but secretly wish I resembled Harry Potter a little bit more. We'll spend too much time together, and I'll probably end up secretly in love with him. Except it won't be that secret because I wear my heart on my sleeve around my friends. I'll be broken-hearted that he's not interested in me but he'll still stack up against any straight guy I meet, so it won't matter. But I'll fantasize about him before I fall asleep, unless we're platonically snuggling of course.

Aside from the unrequitted love we'll get along great till the day he meets someone. Which is how it always happens with platonic friends, male or female, gay or straight. Unless I meet someone first, who's just like him, only he wants to sleep with me too.

Contrary to popular belief, there _are_ straight guys who enjoy musicals and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

A hypothetical question.

Does the Buffy musical count? =p

nah, it played with the genre and poked holes in it to the point that avowed musical-haters enjoyed it.

Well, regardless, I can name at least one straight guy who likes Buffy *and* musicals (and not just Buffy the Musical). And for that matter, I can name many a gay guy who likes neither Buffy nor musicals, though I'm sure you knew that wasn't such a pervasive stereotype.

I'm not normally homophobic, but when even girls start talking about wanting to put their dick in a guy's ass, it makes you a little nervous...

In certain cultures, that isn't a real test at all. The real test is, as a man, allowing another man to put his dick in you.

Sex in the City is so mainstream.

Don't mean to be rude but...

Only an American could think Sex in the City was anything out of the ordinary. (I think it's something to do with TV self-censorship in the states.)

You need something a bit more like the British Queer as Folk, ie lots of onscreen gay sex but sadly no dick shots. I understand there was an American version of this but that would inevitably have been majorly watered down.

Don't know if you saw the recent movie about Oscar Wilde with Stephen Fry as the lead. That had a bit of ass-fucking with his friend face-up and legs bent forward to raise his bum. And the lead had all the witty lines from Wilde.

The only gay character of note that I can think of on American TV was Niles from the early Frasiers and he was a closet case.

missing the point

1) I didn't say it was anything out of the ordinary, just that no straight man seems to like it in the least.

2) I did see Wilde, though. Jude Law.

3) And HELLO, Will and Grace anyone?

Oh come on.

From the few episodes I've seen Will is just a straight man who's pretending to be gay.

He's a stray. Have you actually seen his dick in action with another guy on TV?
