Had a non-sucky v-day, although I keep saying I don't care. It's not as bad as Christmas, I mean. Anyway had Indian food, watched my DVD of About a Boy, and saw The Prom and Carissa's Wierd at the Crocodile. Mainly I wanted to see Prom because, for one thing, I like their CD a lot, and for another, the last time I tried to see them, they were the opener and we got there late. And they're like a cross between Low and Ben Folds. You gotta respect the piano bands. Except for the fact that they didn't play my favorite song (despite warming up with the opening chords), they were good.
Unfortunately, like most venues in Seattle, the Crocodile has terrible ventilation. I don't really understand it, but when we got there the heat was blowing in the non-concert area. And in the actual concert area there were just so many people that I felt all Blanche Dubois and wanted to have a lie-down for a spell. Instead I drank Diet Pepsi and sucked on ice cubes till they turned the heat off or something. I dunno, there was definitely a moment or two when I felt breezes. But Prom "rocked out" so that was nice.
Carissa's Wierd, unfortunately, did not. I thought that like, all bands got louder when they played live, but this one did not. The male lead singer had the softest voice ever, when he sang or talked, I could barely hear him. I asked Asa "What is up with that?" and he's like "Um, I think he's supposed to be sensitive or something." And I was all "FUCK THAT, I didn't pay money for the dude to be sensitive on stage, he's supposed to holla." Plus all their songs that they started off with were slow. Which is like, key for me to hate you. Little hint: after midnight DO NOT START YOUR SET WITH SLOW NUMBERS. Argh. I lasted for three songs that felt like lullabies. They weren't bad, I mean, I was just about to fall asleep.
