If anyone is interested, Goodwill sells snowboards (at least the one in my 'hood) and gear for very reasonable prices. You can get outfitted for under a hundred bucks. And this sunny weather enables any car to drive to Snoqualmie Pass, where a newbie can get a lesson+ticket deal for only a bit more than a ticket alone.

check used sports shops and such too. I picked up a perfectly serviceable name-brand snowboard for $50 in portland a couple seasons ago. I highly suspect seattle has similar deals around. or, you know. go to PDX for cheaper shit.
