try harder, ok.

I mean, OK, Led Zeppelin is Led Zeppelin, but jesus, there's so much more awesomeness around for people to listen to while laying around with headphones on, just in the past 20 years. Even if you only consider the rock-genres. U2, Radiohead, The White Stripes, Mogwai, come on, give me a break.

Note for note, though, "Stairway to Heaven" rocks more than anything U2 or Radiohead ever did.

I'm not familiar enough with Mogwai or the White Stripes to say for sure, but I'd bet it outrocks at least Mogwai, too.

That's not to say those other bands aren't freaking incredibly awesome. But for sheer rock value? Stairway. There's a reason they don't let Wayne play it in the guitar store.

there, I said it

I would stack "Where The Streets Have No Name" up against "Stairway," and "With or Without You" up against "Going to California."

Great songs, for sure, but they don't rock like "Stairway."

Yes on the second (although it's hardly fair to compare the all-time-best U2 song with a middle-of-the-road Zep song), but you are smoking crack on the first (and on any other reasonable comparison).

You kids.

Closet? I am an unabashed Zep fan! If I weren't currently boycotting RIAA-label music I'd go down to the garage and break out my box set and wake up the neighbors right now!

(Did I mention that I can play "The Rain Song" on the guitar?)

Not that I know you particularly well, but of all the people in my life I expected might passionately defend "Stairway to Heaven" as the greatest rock song of all time, you were near the bottom of that list.

Well, of course, "Don't Stop Believing" is the greatest rock song of all time.

But Led Zeppelin is quite probably the greatest rock band of all time.

Ummmm are you referring to the song entitled "Fool in the Rain"?

"Fool in the Rain" is better than ALL U2 songs COMBINED.

I was thinking "Sunday Bloody Sunday."

BUT STAIRWAY IS OVERRATED EXCEPT FOR THE LAST 3 MINUTES

I think "Sunday Bloody Sunday" comes close.

Some of us are capable of distinguishing one song from another.

Led Zepplin isn't that good, just attuned to a certain time of life or rememberence of it.

i agree, mainly because i Really Hate Led Zeppelin. we had this guy come in to karaoke last sunday who only sang led zeppelin songs and i thought my eardrums would bleed out of pure spite.

oh, I love the Zep, but I just think it's sad (if) he can't appreciate the forward strides made since the mid-70s.
