oh yeah, I need to get the new sigur ros

try harder, ok.

I mean, OK, Led Zeppelin is Led Zeppelin, but jesus, there's so much more awesomeness around for people to listen to while laying around with headphones on, just in the past 20 years. Even if you only consider the rock-genres. U2, Radiohead, The White Stripes, Mogwai, come on, give me a break.

Note for note, though, "Stairway to Heaven" rocks more than anything U2 or Radiohead ever did.

I'm not familiar enough with Mogwai or the White Stripes to say for sure, but I'd bet it outrocks at least Mogwai, too.

That's not to say those other bands aren't freaking incredibly awesome. But for sheer rock value? Stairway. There's a reason they don't let Wayne play it in the guitar store.

there, I said it

I would stack "Where The Streets Have No Name" up against "Stairway," and "With or Without You" up against "Going to California."

Great songs, for sure, but they don't rock like "Stairway."

Yes on the second (although it's hardly fair to compare the all-time-best U2 song with a middle-of-the-road Zep song), but you are smoking crack on the first (and on any other reasonable comparison).

You kids.

... says the closet Zep fan?

Closet? I am an unabashed Zep fan! If I weren't currently boycotting RIAA-label music I'd go down to the garage and break out my box set and wake up the neighbors right now!

(Did I mention that I can play "The Rain Song" on the guitar?)

Not that I know you particularly well, but of all the people in my life I expected might passionately defend "Stairway to Heaven" as the greatest rock song of all time, you were near the bottom of that list.

Well, of course, "Don't Stop Believing" is the greatest rock song of all time.

But Led Zeppelin is quite probably the greatest rock band of all time.

Ummmm are you referring to the song entitled "Fool in the Rain"?

Re: there, I said it

[identity profile] skipbreakfast.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fool in the Rain" is better than ALL U2 songs COMBINED.

I was thinking "Sunday Bloody Sunday."

Really? Hmm.

[identity profile] herbaliser.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
BUT STAIRWAY IS OVERRATED EXCEPT FOR THE LAST 3 MINUTES

I think "Sunday Bloody Sunday" comes close.

I have Takk on Soulseek if you want it.

[identity profile] atonal.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
eh...I'm sure it sounds like the last one, which basically sounds like the album before it.

[identity profile] herbaliser.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of us are capable of distinguishing one song from another.

[identity profile] atonal.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
just saying...sigur ros could use a bit more variation.

[identity profile] herbaliser.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, probably. the new album apparently has a bunch of acoustic tracks.

Led Zepplin isn't that good, just attuned to a certain time of life or rememberence of it.

my apologies

[identity profile] atonal.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
none of those bands come even close to how good Zeppelin is

i agree, mainly because i Really Hate Led Zeppelin. we had this guy come in to karaoke last sunday who only sang led zeppelin songs and i thought my eardrums would bleed out of pure spite.

[identity profile] herbaliser.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
oh, I love the Zep, but I just think it's sad (if) he can't appreciate the forward strides made since the mid-70s.
