You know, it's one thing when people fall into the WoW hole. It's horrible, nerdy, dorky, and embarrassing, but it's something I've seen before (Everquest) so it's simple enough to deal with.

But the Lost people are too scary for words.

Yeah... they totally scare me. I have yet to actually watch the show, so I'm completely clueless when people go on about it for hours. I think I like it that way.

The internet and music is basically my crack.

I don't think I've ever met someone whose obsession of Lost was more nerdy and scary than people whose obsession is a MMO.

Lost is interesting and fun to watch, but in the end it's still just storytelling and fiction. I don't see any significant difference between people who are obsessed with Lost and obsessions with any other type of fiction (Harry Potter, Firefly/Serenity, 24, Family Guy, Simpsons, Daytime TV, etc).

the harry potter people are also scary, but at least the books only come out so often.

I've never met anyone who was crazy obsessed with Lost. I watch regularly, but generally at the end of the episode my friends and I just go, "Awww, fuck!" when the writers introduce some bizarre new plot line that will never be resolved, and maybe we bitch about it for five minutes before moving on. My English professor this past semester occasionally mentioned the show to illustrate some point about Renaissance literature, which was kind of cool yet sad at the same time.

I agree with this comment.

I have seen exactly 30 seconds of it. There was a fat sweaty guy and a skinny white woman walking through a jungle.

I can't say I found it fascinating.

24 on the other hand is getting freakishly cartoonishly unrealistic, to the point where I wish they'd just do the whole thing in rotoscope. By which I mean it's finally getting really, really good.

bwah. I'm totally linking this. Though due to cultural guilt, I almost feel like I should start watching it. With all the subtitled anime I watch, my Japanese is getting better than my Korean.

No worse than the people who are obsessed with Veronica Mars (there are people who have raised 3,000 bucks to hire a plane to carry a sign that begs execs to bring the show back for a third season)

I don't think it's that stupid; I've enjoyed it for the most part. It's not without criticism but it's engaging.
