"Throughout its history, the term "neurosis", while adhering generally to the above definitions, has been used as a "catch-all" term for many medical or psychological phenomena. Partly due to this lack of definition, it is clinically no longer in common use. Current classification systems have abandoned the category of neurosis; the DSM-IV has eliminated the category altogether. Disorders formerly termed as neuroses are now described under more specific disorders such as anxiety, depression, and personality disorders. Still, the usage of the term neurosis remains controversial, and it has been argued that a more appropriate term is needed to replace it."
my view is that basically something that is not a big deal making you act rather strange. OCD is an example but they don't have enough fucking terms for all the weird ways people act with them.
Yeah, agreed. Although some people with OCD are a big deal (you know, classic examples like washing your hands until they bleed sort of thing). But tons of people have borderline OCD and function perfectly fine.
There are a few psychological disorders, interesting enough, that are considered normal in youth but are not normal if we don't grow out of them. OCD is an example (it's particularly common in young boys, apparently). Borderline personality disorder (BPD) and antisocial disorder are other examples. Psychologists won't (or shouldn't) diagnose a woman with BPD until she's 20, for instance (although I believe it's expected to end around 16); anti-social disorder is the male equivelent to BPD (similar root problem, different way of expressing it).
Do you know what is funny? Is that I am stupid. I did not notice the whole neurosis thing and I just thought the poll was asking if this is me in general. HAHAHA fuckin stoner.
