So I always, always, always hear, "Why aren't you in any of your vacation photos?" The simple answer is that it's not easy to take pictures of yourself, and other people don't really do what you want them to. But there's another reason, which is that pictures of things with people in them tend to suck.

Let's examine a picture like this:



Now, you can see me, sort of, and you can see the fountain, sort of. Or is it just a big statue? I have no idea, and can't tell. No fault with the photographer really, this is just a really unaesthetic style.

Still not a great picture, as I had it in too small of a format, but at least you can see everything.

Of course the kind of photos I like are the super ghey ones:

I've found that digital cameras can work wonders since you can review the photo before walking away....I can usually position myself in the bottom corner and get enough in, but yeah it makes a point for taking a photographer on vacation with you. :)

to satisfy our moms' desires to see our faces in our vacation shots, we'd frame them and then manipulate each other to shove a head in the bottom corner or something. But I prefer to just take shots of stuff and shots of me, but not shots of me with stuff (unless it's works of art, because that's just too funny to pass up).

If you're going to take a straight shot of a monument or something, you need to spice it up a bit. Sit in the corner cross-legged, or do some "where's waldo? laural?" bullshit to make it interesting.
