from [livejournal.com profile] tyrven:

"Gender based pricing occurs. Just because I don't think we should jump to government regulation doesn't mean that I don't think it's a problem."

Which made me think about high-heels. Now, if there's anything that should be regulated by the government, it should be these. I mean can anyone explain to me whypotentially debilitating shoes are always twenty-million times more attractive than flats? At the very least they should come with warning labels and web site links, like cigarettes do.

Well, high heels make you clench your butt and arch your back, thereby accentuating the curve and simulating lordosis.

Also, they make it harder to run away.

They just make me fall over. That's real sexy, right?

yeah but remember if you do just fall over and some creepy guy comes up you can do fuckloads more damage to an eye with a stiletto than a flat.

I love heels. I can't walk in flats.

I love my heels. My favorite boots have a chunky 3in heel. I did find out this week though, that I shouldn't wear them to work if I'm going to be doing a lot of moving boxes. My feet were killing me Monday night. My claves got a great workout though!

Wow I hate wearing high heels but it's good to see in writing that I have a good excuse to wear ugly but sensible shoes.

They make you look taller and you seem to have longer legs. That's it. We love it.

As long as it doesn't make you look taller than us, that is.

I heard the origins of high heels were originally from prostitutes long ago, so they were more elevated whern they bent over iin any convienient alley, etc for their johns. a couple centuries later, its not surprising that heels are linked with sex, and that the most extreme heels are still usually associated with the sex industry.

That's fascinating.

There are certainly biomechanical problems with the way heels are CURRENTLY designed. I happen to think that engineering problem is fixable.

All the psychobabble and feminist propaganda about heels is a bunch of *crap*. Heels look nice because they enhance and extend the sexy lines and curves of a womans leg. That's it. There are no other deep, dark motivations involved.

yeah I've seen pages with "fixed" heels, actually, but the shoes were 3x more expensive and really oogly. The fact that we can make computers the size and cost of a watch, but not make heels that don't break women's feet, is more what I find to be sexist.

If only natural selection discriminated on more terms than death and reproductivity.

Personally, I am looking forward to a world where everything we buy comes with a warning label.

"Notice: By purchasing this skirt you are supporting child labor in China; the 6 year old who assembled this product is probably dying in the street due to unregulated exposure to the caustic chemicals used during the assembly process. Please purchase and continue to your nearest confessional. God forgives all sins and, damned girl, you'll look sexy in this number."
