I was never ever gonna get (legally) married for all the reasons that xeney person wasn't but the day I turned 35 I started feeling all 'gaaaaaaaaaaah I am an old maaaaaaaaaaaaid' (despite 10 years of living together) and crabbed at E. until he agreed to make an honest woman out of me.
I think it is weird, weird, weird when my twentysomething friends get married. What the hell is their rush? I think the psychological reassurance doesn't outstrip the tax/credit/financial risks and burdens. If you really need to share insurance because one of you just got over cancer or you're worried that your baby's daddy won't pay child support if you break up, then well, okay. Otherwise? It.is.just.dumb.
But when you're older and maybe need to make sure you have one person you can trust with power of attorney, or you really find you work better when you have someone who has to stay on your team, and he backed that up by dealing with your crap for ten years before he made that obligation, then yeah, that's when marriage is a good thing.
