No, it's because he couldn't. There's some rule about a doc being ineligble if it plays on television, and Michael Moore opted to show it on TV, thus ousting himself from contention.
Besides, there are bigger upsets than that this year! "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" - one of the most visually stunning films in years and done almost entirely with CGI - wasn't even nominated for Visual Effects.
But then there were sweet little gems, too, like the lead actress in "Maria Full of Grace" being nominated for Best Actress, or Linklater, Hawke, and Delpy being nominated for Adapted Screenplay with "Before Sunset".
Um... he just wanted to offer it free of charge before the election so as many people could see it as possible. I think it was done in the style of pay-per-view, but you didn't actually have to pay.
Oh, that, yeah.. no idea. My understanding is that Linklater started an email thread with Delpy and Hawke and said "here are the subjects I would like to touch on in the sequel... let's start generating some dialogue and see what it looks like". So, unless adapted means "adapted from the brains of three people", I don't see how it qualifies in that category.
sky captain was done without cgi? i thought it looked about 90% cgi, but i guess they can do a lot with odd filters and models. The look of that film really bothered me actually.
I said "with", not "without", yo. It's too bad you didn't like the look of it... I thought it was really visionary, and a great tribute to some of the films of the 30's and 40's. Especially to Fritz Lang's "Metropolis", which is perhaps the most important (and most influential) sci-fi film of all time.
Yeah, but those dorks pushed back the release date on Orgazmo to match up with Team America. It was originally slated for mid-February. So much for giving it as a Valentine's Day gift.
The extras look promising, especially the "making of" documentary (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0315308/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnxteD0yMHxzZz0xfGxtPTIwMHx0dD1vbnxwbj0wfHE9b3JnYXptb3xodG1sPTF8bm09b24_;fc=2;ft=21;fm=1).

I'm SURE he knew that.
