The annoying thing about M83's albums is that the first one was released 12/30/2003, and the second one is coming out at the end of this month. So even though 2004 was ALL ABOUT M83, technically one cannot put either of his albums on the "best of" list. Nevertheless you should immediately grab Before the Dawn Heals Us and Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts.

Other albums I enjoyed listening to obsessively:
The Butchies, Make Yr Life. Power-pop-lesbian-punk.
Interpol, Antics. At first I hated this album for not being, um, Turn on the bright lights. But it grows on you, especially after seeing them perform "Next Exit" live.
Franz Ferdinand, Franz Ferdinand. DANCE YOU MOTHERFUCKING INDIE SCENESTER DANCE!
The Album Leaf, In a Safe Place. I liked it better than Summer Make Good, what can I say?
Ambulance LTD, LP. Every song on this album is just really well-crafted and enjoyable to listen to over and over again.
Dykehouse, Midrange. Omg. I love that new-wave-dark-electro married to shoegaze/space/postrock sound.
Ratatat, Ratatat. BAM BAM BAM headbanging electronic. Every song sounds the same, but that's ok, because the sound is fucking perfect.
The Veils, Runaway Found. Is this emo? I don't think so. It's so raw and beautiful though.
AC Newman, The Slow Wonder. New Pornographer's frontman makes good on his own.
RJD2, Since We Last Spoke. Hm. It's RJD2. It's good. I dunno what else to say about it. I listened to it over and over and over.
Neulander, Smoke + Fire. German electro-pop. Like Kierkegard doing Stereo Total. Reg liked this more than I did, not that I didn't like it, but I heard it mainly after making him download it for me, and he just kept playing it over and over again. And I still like it, so there you go.
The Faint, Wet From Birth. I still really like these guys.
Morrissey, You Are The Quarry. I still really like this guy. And a lot of the songs were kickin' too.

Like Kierkegard doing Stereo Total.

A Danish nineteenth-century existential theologian playing in a German pop band... nah, that can't be right.

The RJD2 album took me a little bit to get into, but I'm really starting to like it now.

Holy shit - I like three of those albums.

Am I some sort of indie hipster now?

The only one I have heard and didn't like is Morrissey.

And fine, "was I an indie hipster a year ago?"
