We went to see the Machinist last night, starring Christian Bale's ribcage and vertebrae. I mean, ew. But in general it was a really interesting psychological study and made Reg tense as shit. I'm rather fond of the "is he crazy or are they really out to get him" school of plot, which is I suppose why I own almost all of PKD's novels. Although it wasn't quite as cool as that. But anyway, good times.

I was pretty disappointed by The Machinist. I wanted to like it so badly. So much in fact I thought that it came out like a month ago and that I had missed it. So when I saw that it was playing at The Uptown the excitment came flooding back. Christian Bale was A-Fucking-Mazing! He is going to make an epic Batman. The screenplay was competent. Although I felt like it is partially to blame for why the film didn't work for me. The cinematography was outstanding. All those cold blue shadows made it like watching a bruise. So what was wrong with it? The director. I feel as though he should have accepted that he was covering similar ground as Memento and Jacob's Ladder. Instead it seemed as though he wanted to "be original" and as a result lost his film somewhere towards the end. When we finally discover why the character is so messed up it seems underwhelming. Don't get me wrong. The magnitude of the event is not underwhelming. However, how that event is revealed to the audience is less than interesting. It seemed tacked on. I would have prefered that the guy was just a complete nut case and there is no other reason for his behavior. And what about Jennifer Jason Leigh? I guess if you are going to chew the scenery then the only way to do it is topless. She was wasting her time.

xian bale makes me wet. itll be a good test of his hawtness if i can stand him skinny...but i'll think of him as my lover who is dying of AIDS after a wonderful life together =)

see, the ribcage parts were a bit much, but his cheeks were so hollowed out I still wanted him. And I felt a bit of a shit. :)

ha! after my college bf who was forever jabbing me with his hip bones, i like a some flesh with my boyeez...but bale is an exception, every time. i never thought totally buff guys covered in hooker blood were hot, until he did it, either.
