I've got the right balance of uppers and downers in me right now to prevent panic attack AND passing out. Anyway, without further ado:

• bluegrass
• country music after 1930
• jazz after WW2 that didn't come out of new orleans
• soulful r&b
• anything with "smooth" in the description
• southern rock/alt country
• "bling" rap
• skater punk
• speed/death metal/industrial (unless it's more electronic than instruments)
• Tool
• folk music, or just any "singer/songwriter" with a plinky guitar
• glitchy IDM without a beat
• psytrance with only a beat
• french hip-hop
• nerd rock

It's funny that you give Tool its own genre.

I'm not really sure what genre to put them in, since I hate them.

I think with most of these the problem is a saturation of artists that are crap and bring down the whole genre. except that sort of applies to any kind of music.

while i agree with much of this list
i would classify much of what you listen to as "nerd rock"

that was just shorthand for They Might Be Giants

They Might Be Giants kicks ass. Especially for karaoke. I have had Bitdhouse In Your Soul sang to me twice in the last couple of weeks. I like it.

There are a couple of other genres in there that I like, but I agree with a lot of them.

I dislike most of that too, except I like speed metal and Tool, and some country from the 40's and 50's. And TMBG is okay in very tiny doses.

What does that leave, exactly? Indie Rock, New Wave, Electronica and... Christian Funk?

I happen to occasionally like bluegrass.

But yeah, other than that, almsot perfect. I'd add 'System of a Down' in next to 'Tool', however, since they also display a sort of musical talent that doesn't lend itself to any real genre, and sucks.

southern rock/alt country has really been growing on me recently. Drive By Truckers totally rock. I really like Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown. I find myself listening to Swinging Doors on KEXP and liking it.
