I finished the Tom Robbins last night, and it was one of those "interesting but didn't speak to me" kind of books. Switters kind of had diarrhea of the mouth and never finished any of his interesting ideas, and I'm still incredibly prejudiced against pedophiles.

So yeah, more unpopular ideas: I think there's nothing wrong with being sexually attracted to teenagers, but that should be the extent of it. Maybe it was different before high school and college became widespread, but nowadays most people don't start really maturing until after age twenty. There are many factors for this, one is that teenagers are not self-actualized, and aren't encouraged to do so. Another factor is that even when they are forced to, the hormonal soup contained makes it hard to focus on logic, rationality, and critical thinking. To young people, things seem so much more important than they really are, and learning this is one of the first steps to "growing up."

Point being, having a sexualized relationship with someone who hasn't achieved self-actualization and still thinks pink is really really cute is more or less the equivalent of, well, fucking a dog because it's got a lot of personality.

Omg what? Pink isn't really really cute? Huh? Oh... wait, you're right, sorry.

tom robbins' work is totally smug and masturbatory. he does a good job of doing what he does, and sometimes it's enjoyable to watch, but i just never feel very involved.

huh! maybe i should read that one. i've been planning to read "even cowgirls get the blues", too -- it's been on my shelf for aeons.

right now, though, it's super-amusing christian book from my mom called, "i kissed dating goodbye". the most amusing parts are when i agree with his relationship advice, but for reasons ridiculously removed from his.

heh! as you've probably noticed from my recent posts, I'm almost on the side of god with the sex shit, but for totally different reasons as well...

What Robbins book did you read? I find his stuff incredibly uneven.

Hmmm. I just put it on hold at the library, but if it starts to annoy me, it's going straight back into the 24-hour drop box.

The convent part? Awesome.

You know, I lived in a convent for a brief time during my misspent youth. True.

yeah, age correlates but is not directly proportional to maturity.

Not quite how I would've put it, but I agree. I've worked with teenagers every day for the past two years, and the more I am around them, the less and less I understand why any grown man (or woman) would actually want to sleep with someone underage.
