If it was on a trip and it was something reasonable - like $5 or $7 - I'd mail them a check. But I got like a $60 parking ticket in Philly 2 weeks before I shipped out of there for good, back when I was stationed there, and I just sneered and shitcanned it.
the ones i get in seattle I tend to forget about, and then pay later. In other cities, screw it. I've still got outstanding ones in San Francisco, which only means i can't get CA tabs on the car.
I'm probably not the best person to answer this since I've never gotten a ticket. It's always fun to go to court though, can you dispute parking tickets? :)
Apply for mitigation, then choose mitigation by mail. You still have to pay it, but it's usually less than half the original amount. Last parking ticket I got was $45; after mitigation I had to pay only $20.
