I read The Culture of Fear which I mistakenly grabbed from Reg's thinking it was The Gift of Fear. The former is about how the media and big business make us overreact about everything, and the latter I think is about how culture erased our natural instincts for fear and trust. But I haven't read it so I dunno.

Anyway it reminded me of The Demon-Haunted World so I re-read that, then attempted House of Leaves but I was fuckin' creeped out and so, instead, re-read Memoirs of a Geisha, which has a very simple plot but is so detailed and researched that it's a pleasure to read. And last night I started on The Severed Alliance which is basically about the Smiths, and apparently from all accounts Morrissey hates Johnny Rogan for writing it. But I played the singles while I listened to it and I got all sad.

The Demon-Haunted World

This is definitely the Carl Sagan book that had the most impact on me. Beyond that it is probably one of the best books on science that I have ever read. I also thought that Billions and Billions was a worthy elegy.
