it would be far more convenient if you could get like, a voicemail or something of the directions.

well, not voicemail, since you can't pause it.

But maybe generate an OGG or MP3 that you can download?

There's always the GPS systems that you can get for the car. You punch in the address and it tells you when to turn left or right, it even tells you a minute or so in advance when an exit is coming up that you want to take.
