I did indeed rip through the OSC book. I think I was annoyed with it b/c there was hardly any Peter Wiggin, whom I find to be the most fascinating character ever. But otherwise not bad. Really though I'm just suffering from Wheel of Time withdrawal, you know what I mean? Sure the later books are annoying but when you actually, you know, read them right in a row it's a lot more enjoyable. A lot of the action takes place within a week, so if you READ IT within a week it makes more sense and feels better and all that. I gave the newsgroup a glance yesterday and felt all this stupid nostalgia.
See, I was given Book 4 as a gift when I graduated high school, read it and was utterly confused. Read it again two years later at which point I was like "Oh, wait a second, this is REALLY REALLY GOOD and REALLY REALLY interesting." I bought the rest of the books and read them in order and was again blown away, but the real deal was when I did internet searches and found rec.arts.written.sf.robert-jordan and became completely, utterly obsessed. Pam and Richard and John, oh my. Well, yeah, years went by and time grew shorter and I couldn't read every single message on the newsgroup anymore, and two years between books was just too many. So mostly over it, but just looking over it I can feel it again. Is it nostalgia for the obsession, or the obsession itself tempered by years?
