the song that's shakin' me
Apr. 16th, 2004 08:45 amAh, well, that's good to hear. I figure I may as well go to this one; I've missed every single one of their tours that I've known of, I mean.
After the debacle yesterday, I talked Steve into going to Sushi at Blue C. Well, we were wondering what the fuss was all about; what kind of place commands a 20-minute wait on a Thursday night? The host took an immediate shine to us, as did, I thought, the bartender. Or maybe she was just really cute. But the host would say "Steve" like he knew him from high school, or something more clandestine. I don't know why else he gave us a free dessert.
Anyway I'm no connoisseur or anything but it was fairly good, fresh enough - for those of you uninitiated to the ways of Blue C, they have a big conveyor belt around the "chefs" (attractive young half-asian men cutting up the fish) and they lay it out on little plates with plastic hats covering them, for I suppose sanitary reasons. And it seemed really cheap, but then we did have drinks first, and I fill up faster when I do that. So it was fun, and cheap, and decent, but I think it's more one of those things you bring impoverished tourists to.
The girl behind us was either really picky or her date was; she kept picking up plates and putting them back. I wondered if maybe she'd smell them first or what. But her actions enabled me to grab some cucumber rolls. I had, let's see, those, avocado rolls, this fried tofu roll thing (which sucked), spider roll, california roll, salmon roll, tuna roll (we kept trying and trying but couldn't find the albacore rolls); tuna, albacore, salmon and yellowsocket nigiri. Steve thought the albacore was yellow tail, but no, so we got a lot of it. Not that I'm complaining, but it's a little rich to eat so much of.
Reg called me about five times during dinner, because he's utterly cute when he's codependent. Anyway he got out of class just before we settled the check, and we ended up at my place at the same time.
I had spent the afternoon wrapping up his gift, which had arrived via UPS that morning, and now I couldn't bear the suspense. I wasn't sure, after all, if it would arrive Thursday or Friday, but either way I was giving it to him early. Is that wrong? I'm a firm believer in giving gifts early*. Apparently his parents are taking us to dinner Monday, not Tuesday, which is not quite as early but you know.
So, yeah, for those of you not in the know, I got Reg a coffeemaker+grinder 'cos, well, he likes coffee, and it was the best thing I could think of. I mean best in the sense that it was actually a good thing; he'd been talking about getting one in the summer, when he moved out, so it wasn't something he'd buy himself anytime soon. Unlike anything else he'd mentioned.
Anyway the point being that I gave it to him after a bit of antici-pation buildup, and he was psyched as hell. We couldn't figure out from reading the directions whether or not the timer worked on the grinder or not, but he said even without that it was totally awesome and I was the best girlfriend ever and all that good stuff. (the grinder, apparently, does go off when the timer does. quite loudly.)
