Not that I've ever actually seen an episode of American Idol, this still sounds about right.

I kind of want to see Sir Mix-a-Lot and/or David Bowie. But, I guess I won't.

I've been watching American Idol the past couple weeks and I think that article is a bit off base. Sure, if you start watching it, you can get critical of the focus on pitch and the techinal aspects of the singing, but that's not what they are judging.

If people are being critial of the show because someone like tom waits wouldn't make it past the first round, then you are missing the point. The show is trying to find the most middle of the road singer.
