This article about women in the Bible is pretty interesting, except for one crucial thing. The Bible is mostly made up stories, which they neglected to mention.

This is interesting: Five Geek Social Fallacies. I'm not so bad with these, except maybe 3 and 5. But I'm pretty good at not liking people, since I am technically now a cool person. Hahah.

I guess that means no more SCA/Furry parties at your place.

People are going to think the same when they read your journal thousands of years from now.

that's fine. but the difference is, even thousands of years ago, it was still made up. It's not like "moses" actually existed.

I'm pretty sure she exists.

I see where you're trying to go, and you're attempting to make a vast jump over a gaping logical gap. Hell, even your designatory metaphor is fallacious.

Well, I haven't seen you since yesterday, and you hadn't posted for a few minutes, so I didn't have any empirical evidence to base any assertion of surety regarding your continued existence on... just faith...

Aw, fuck.

I think I'm going to have to go with a definite "Yes" on this one.

As I understand it, the tendancy to interpret the Bible (or other religious texts) as the absolute TRUTH is a relatively recent (post enlightenment) development.

Moses and the exodous of the Jews from Egypt probably didn't happen as written, but it is a compelling and very human story. To evaluate the worth of a religion by the measure of its historical accuracy kinda misses the point doesn't it?

i didn't realize there was a point :)

A point to religion/mythology, or a point to this thread?

You're just being snarky aren't you?

Lucky me, none of those "social fallacies" really seem to apply to me, even though I'm an übergeek. Then again, I'm a Closet Cool Guy.

I looked through the 5 geek social fallacies to see how they applied to the radical activist scene (since a lot of activists are geeks, imo) but strangely, they did not really work in that context... I guess when you choose your ostracization, different rules apply. Hmmm...

Yeah, I find that People Who Believe In Shit are not very accepting of People Who Do Not Believe In Shit.
