Last night at the Contour was rather odd, really. "It's a little 425 up in here!" Not at all the usual skanky crowd - a totally different skanky crowd. Some cute guys, though. But from what I could tell they were all from Bellevue. I don't get those east-siders, man.

Afterwards I had FS bring me home - and he left his phone here, apparently. Oops. He came here this morning and tried to wake me up, apparently. I feel pretty silly now.

I called him after watching the Gore Vidal documentary. This was a coup, it was sold out, and they let in twenty people. There was a couple in front of me, but the chick had gone to buy tix for other shows.... So I was the absolute last person let in. Sweet.

The documentary was totally awesome. I mean, Gore Vidal is a character, and he knows it, and he played it to the hilt. But it was very interesting hearing about his views on certain historical events and personages, like Jefferson, Lincoln, World War 1 and 2, etc. It's not showing again, alas, but we had the DIRECTOR and she had a Q&A session afterwards. It was all totally awesome, and William F. Buckley called Vidal a "queer" during the 1960 Democratic convention. What more could you want, right?

How about for Buckley to call him "pillow biter" or "manhole inspector" ?

arid, the only decent belgian band

you obviously have not heard dEUS. download "In a bar, under the sea" now. just trust me on it. (the songs "gimme the heat" and "serpentine" and "opening night" and "disappointed in the sun" are all great, if you're anxious about getting the whole album -- which is amazing as a whole in and of itself, btw.)

i was going to say the same thing, except that i'd suggest the ideal crash.

apparently belgium has a really absurd amount of good music being made that never gets noticed.

worst case scenario is my favorite, actually, and i hated ideal crash until about a year ago when i was studying for an exam and finally got into it. but given laural's tastes, "In A Bar, Under The Sea" is the best fit. (and avoid "My sister = my clock", laural. )

Gore Vidal is a fucking badass. He called Buckley a crypto-fascist also if I remember right. Buckley should of course be drop-kicked in the nuts, especially if you watch the Manufacturing Consent DVD and see the debate thing between him and Chomsky. He comes off as the most arrogant prick that ever lived. He was probably intimidated knowing Chomsky was so much smarter than him though, so maybe he was just nervous.

Sometimes I think Vidal goes too far in his conspiracy type stuff though. If you haven't read Live from Golgotha go get it and read it, just to hear St. Paul talk about Timothy's huge cock.

Yep. Crypto-nazi AND crypto-fascist. the actual "queer" thing was impossible to make out on the audio, tho.
