there's the rub

1 I didn't really like the Boy George Essential Mix when I downloaded it, but the second half is more trance-y and mixed together a little better. So I'm glad I didn't delete it. I'd forgotten that a lot of the tracks are just nice to listen to, as well, till I listened to a CD I'd burned a few months ago - it ended with a couple of the tracks I'd snagged once.
2 I started Ubik yesterday, as Steve can't find any more of his Sedaris books, and I finished Barrel Fever. I'd read Holidays on Ice years ago (which has a few of the same stories) but it was still nice to read some of those again. And the rest of them. Although I dunno, I think Me Talk Pretty One Day was superior. His fiction just seems a little "off" compared to his essays. I mean they're practically the same, but not quite. Or something. I dunno. Something.
(edit: oops, Holidays in Hell is a PJ O'Rourke book.)
3 So it's back to Dick. Haven't gotten too far in it yet, but the idea of the girl who can change the past is pretty nifty. So far though, the only character I've connected with is the broke-ass Psi tester. And not even that much. The main thing I like about Dick's books are that you can totally connect with the characters, so I'm a little disappointed so far.
4 I joined the Surrendered Singles email list, just because, well, it's funny. Plus it's a nice contrast to the whole ladder theory stuff. Anyway some of the stuff is good, like the whole "don't clean your boyfriend's bedroom" thing.
5 New Buffy tonight. Everyone appears to be hittin' it. Sweeeet.

Date: 2003-05-07 02:44 am (UTC)"Holidays in Hell" is great, I especially like that the radical student leader in the Korean riot story just finished his term as Prime Minister a month or two ago.
