it's definitely worth doing once... i did it in 2000 and it was awesome. keep your groups small tho b/c it's IMPOSSIBLE to keep up with more than like 3 people in those streets... and wear clothes you dont mind throwing away later. oh... and show you boobs a lot.

I went to Mardi Gras in '99. Had a blast. A buddy of mine was 20 when I was 19, he got carded for drinks everywhere we went and I was almost arrested for starting a fight in a gay bar with a straight guy. Taken down to the station and everything. They uncuffed me so I could take a piss, then I got lost going to the pisser. Found my way into a lobby, a cop asked me what I needed. I said "Directions to Jackson Square?", which was a bunch of blocks in directions I couldn't remember. Then I got chased when I made it about 3 blocks away from the station, only to not be caught. Then I ran into the gay bartenders from the bar, who took me out and got me hella drunk for free, because apparently the guy I threw through a window was a regular jackass. I also inherited an Irish accent for 6 hours and a rad pair of obnoxiously large sunglasses, which were later replaced with an empty puke bucket that I carried around for the majority of the trip. We also saw the aquarium. It was fun.
