Disgusted by my apparent 10-lb weight gain since the holidays, I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and 16 on the rowing machines. I'm in a world of pain now.

On Politics
No matter what everyone claims, ultimately people are just out for themselves, either directly (conservatives support tax cuts) or indirectly (liberals want more taxes to help everyone out, raising everyone up including themselves). I won't pretend to know what's better, but I do know that I want policies that help me out. These include the following:
  • I would like to be able to not be attacked by terrorists. I passed an army surplus store that had a big sign in front declaring "GAS MASKS 49.95" and it creeped me out.
  • Likewise I would like superior public transportation so I don't have to pay expensive gas taxes. Failing that I would like cheaper gas.
  • I would like some money. I don't mind having to work for my money, but I would prefer something that pays what a goddamn Duke graduate should be earning. My last job had a rather ridiculous pay rate which was perfectly acceptable to me. I don't expect to get that now, but I would like at least half of it. So something needs to be done about the tech economy, but I have no idea what.
  • I would like to be able to get drugs for a more reasonable price. I can buy cigarettes, diet pills, coffee and alcohol pretty cheaply, but that's about it. Honestly I wouldn't mind a "vice control store" where I could get more lethal drugs for half the price the black market charges; take the taxes and put them into rehab clinics if people fuck up.
  • See last post re: reproductive freedom. Not that it's a problem yet thankfully.

actually, according to POLITICAL SCIENCE, people vote, more than any other factor, based on who they think is best for the country. For example, if the soldiers who voted in 2000 were voting for themselves, they'd have voted for Al Gore who was promising themselves big pay-raises. Instead they voted for Bush, because they agreed with his worldview more.

i can't speak for you, but i definitely voted for Peg Flood for Town of Brookline housing authority because i think she was better for the town than that damn communist mike jacobs.

besides, bougouis liberals don't benefit monetarily from supporting big spending on welfare.

Well, that's the indirect thing that I'm talking about. If it helps out the community or country, then it helps everyone including yourself.

Liberals who support spending on welfare think they benefit in a similar manner; if poor people have bread they won't steal yours.
