a "fuzzy cuddly animal"
Nov. 16th, 2002 04:43 pmSteve and I went to see "Plankton Man vs. Terrestre" open for "Kid Koala" at the "I-Spy" last night. Well, we saw about five minutes of the opening act and went upstairs for drinks to slightly less oppressive music. The guy was bad, I'm sorry. Transitions were bad, song choices were bad. I dunno what else to say about it.
I had pounded down a screwdriver before we left, and then of course we had more alcohol, and as I was ranting on I stopped to mention "I think I'm drunk." But this was to be the sort of drunkenness that I almost never experience: maudlin drunkenness. Segues into relationships sucking, and all that. We talked for almost an hour before going back to see Kid Koala spin.
And oh man was he so much better. Clever choices in music, backbeats, and movie quotes, active scratching and spinning, and just plain energetic. "He really knows how to pump up a crowd," as Steve said. And he did, he totally pumped us all up. For his encore he did a weird remix of "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's, which was just a little too weird for us, so we left for the Contour...
(I was sober by this time but the Jello and Jaager shots pushed me right back down again. I kept saying shit like "Steve is my BUDDY!" and "You gotta get me some drugs!" and "She's not going to fuck you!" And then on the drive home we talked about ex's who never talk to us again and how we didn't know what we were supposed to do about them. Of course the best drunken line of the evening goes to Steve for describing one of the Romanians as a "dark and passionate man.")
