Nov. 13th, 2002 04:02 pmI was watching François Truffaut's Fahrenheit 451. One of the few cases in which I've read the book first before seeing the movie. Heh. Anyway if you've read the book, you know what it's all about. The movie was of course quite well done, and I think I've fallen in love with Oskar Werner (who plays Montag). Not quite the same way I love Ralph Fiennes, more like the way I love Owen Wilson. The character was just really well-played, and I was likewise impressed with Julie Christie playing both the wife and the school teacher who turns him onto books. She wasn't great but she did pretty well considering that she was two characters. And of course the message gets across a little more powerfully when you can actually see pages crumpling in fire. I also thought it was a little, um, reactionary casting a German with blond hair and blue eyes as the main character. All in all a fine cinematic experience.
