now this is an adventure
Oct. 27th, 2002 11:37 pmthis is after two or three heinekens so bear with me...
we woke up sunday morning to the sound of the goddamn old church (oude kerk) in delft, the bells that never fucking stop apparently. thank darwin for daylight savings time. i'm reminded of the bells monty python sketch where the atheist aims a ballistic missile at the nearest house of worship... anyway we got up late and took a look out the window and were scared. Bear in mind these two girls are from FL and LA, and we know what a fucking hurricane looks like, and THAT is what it looked like...
but we grinned and bore it and walked to the station and took a train to amsterdam. actually the weather was so bad there were no trains to amsterdam so we took the train to haarlem, then a bus to one of the a'dam stations, then to the main centraal station.. and then we attempted to go to the anne frank musuem but it was frikkin' crowded. I took a couple pictures of me and ana pretending to be kites, it was so goddamn windy.
anyway we went to the van gogh museum - which is actually pronounced sort of like "van choch" as in "chutzpah" but I just kept saying 'van cock' 'cos I'm a 14-year-old boy. Anyway we got in and went around and it was fucking great, he's probably my favorite 19th century painter. Plus, when he shot himself, he said "there is no end to sorrow." Bought about 7 postcards with some of his photos on them. For myself. Because I'm greeedy.
And then when we left, the trams were not running. So we had to walk back to the Anne Frankhuis, trying not to die. We stopped at a 'pizzeria' to have dinner first, I tried the "jonge jenever" which is like gin but not as INTENSE. And a cappucinno - they aren't as, um, harsh in NL but this one was, guess 'cos it was an italian place in theory. And then the anne frankhuis, which was really quite touching. Took my breath away.
Afterwards we walked to the train station where they told us ALL TRAINS STOPPED. No trains till um, 5am? yeah. So we called hostels and ended up in the stadsdoelen youth hostel, where I'm writing this. We dropped off our shit then went to the SEXMUSEUM. Which was a fucking great time for 2.50 each. If you're ever in a'dam I recommend it, great value and open till 11pm.
And then we came back, ana was tired and needing to go to work in the morning, so i'm like "OK" and sat in the bar with her for ten minutes, then she's like "gotta go" and so I sit and finish her beer and mine. I stared at this french guy for almost 30 minutes but he was completely oblivious, only in love with the sound of his own voice. Oh well, i'm sure some people are happy about that.
So tomorrow I dunno. I guess I'll hit the Rijksmuseum then go home to delft. and that's the end of my tale.
