Last night I "met" Steve's friend Dan, again - he comes up from San Diego on business about every three weeks - and this time he brought his girlfriend. I chatted her up while the boys bought drinks - she seemed ok, although not sure she'd be the kind of person I'd want to hang around with. Too introverted for me to get along with, I mean. I only get along with a certain class of introverts, or at worst, total introverts who are into the exact same shit I am. Heh. Anyway I thought she was unfairly maligned because god knows I was uncomfortable around my boyfriend's friends back in the day.

However the classic moment last night was when Dan asked me what I did, and I replied "Nothing." Sometimes I say that I used to be a software developer (which is what Steve ended up saying), but I just got a lot of glee from saying "nothing." He was puzzled for a bit, asked if I was looking for work ("Not at the moment") then asked if I was independently wealthy. Haha.

Sometimes I tell people that I'm working on a novel, actually, and they get very interested. It's hard to sum the story up in 25 words or less though, because some people just aren't that interested in SF or fantasy. I usually just say "It's sort of like Harry Potter but for older kids" or "It's like a cross between Harry Potter and Buffy." If I'm feeling very enigmatic, I'll say "It's about loneliness and about how people betray you."

Steve made fun of me, saying he'd come home and see me watching TV and just know I'd never left the house all day. But I've done this before, and one thing I do - beyond trying not to watch more than 2 hours of TV a day - is leave the fucking house every day, for whatever reason. And especially now that I want to try to get into shape. And with that, I go jogging.
