kick-ass pop culture
Oct. 2nd, 2002 11:12 pmLast night's Buffy was great. I may be in the minority, but I've liked all but like, one episode since the move to UPN last year. James Marsters continues to blow me away, every moment he's Spiking onscreen. They said they were going to make this season feel more like season one, and I think they're working it well so far, along with a bit of a more adult feel. It's all good.
Plus Secretary the other day, and then Lawrence of Arabia today. I've never seen it so I was totally psyched, and it was great. Didn't even feel all that much like four hours. I suppose you could compare it to Apocalypse Now, except, well, with actual shit happening to cause the man's downfall rather than just the journey fucking with his head. (OK, so I fell asleep during that one. Sue me, it was late at night.) Although one problem I had was with all the blue-eyed British actors portraying Arabs.
I was rather happy with whoever makes the decisions at the Cinerama to show a movie about Arabian independence in today's political climate, though. I mean the movie is basically about a traitor to the white Christians helping the Arabs unite in a common cause against them, ya know?
Oh, almost forgot - also watched A.I. again yesterday. I liked it muchly the first time, and I liked it even more this time. Even the ending wasn't as bad as I thought. At least he does get screwed, after all. Not like Tom Cruise in Minority Report. Well, OK, he marries that bitch again, so maybe he does.

Date: 2002-10-02 11:47 pm (UTC)A.I. was so awful. So, unspeakably, awful. The only saving grace is Jude Law as the pimpbot.

UPN, what's old is new
Date: 2002-10-03 07:29 am (UTC)I thought last season faltered a bit (Willow's magic-drug metaphor was just a little forced), but was still fantastic (better than the season with Adam and evil scientists). Regardless, the show has really been on the mark thus far.
