I did get involved in some of the discussion last night; one of the things I mentioned was the somewhat heretical view that the Jews were never slaves in Egypt. This morning I did a little research and found this reprint from Harper's March 2002. It's a pretty long article, and basically repeats McCabe's findings with respect to all of the Old Testament, but as it was written almost a hundred years later has more relevant info.

To my surprise, I was briefly accused of being anti-Semitic last night, so I just want to say that's the last thing on my mind here. I am just in favor of accurate information, proof and the scientific method. I will say that I'm biased against religion, but pretty equally against all.

it wasn't really a discussion, just erik saying that what I was saying was anti-semetic, which I countered by saying "I'll just send you the link tomorrow".
