Just saw the movie. God, if I could only have a dude who aged as well as Hugh Grant. And um, of course had a wonderful personality and all that. hey yeah.

Somehow he played the jerk way better than John Cusack. I think it's because he doesn't care, whereas Cusack wants to be liked. Grant seems to like coming across as a jerk, or at least, as I said, he doesn't care. Effortless. Plus I think the character actually knowing he was a jerk helped. Of course he shouldn't have had a happy ending either, but oh well.

I saw that movie one night on accident. We had gone to see another movie, but it sold out (We should have used Fandango, I know, I know LOL) so we were like "What should we go see?" I had seen a few previews, but it didn't look wonderful. It didn't look terrible either, so we went, and I loved it! That was a very strange, but very good movie:)

you can only really trust people who don't care. everyone else cares out of neediness. the evolved jerk, when he/she does care, does it freely.

Hm.. the character Will, in the movie, was sort of an evolved jerk, but still he only cared out of what I would call neediness. He never before had any sort of connection with a human till he met Marcus, and even though he didn't understand it at all, he didn't want to lose it, which he would have by being his normal jerk self.

i think the delineation is between wanting connections vs. needing them. i think it is healthy to want them, but if you need them you will be with anyone rather than being alone.

i think the will character just did not often meet people that he liked very much consequently he created a life of island happiness. when he finally found (or sort of ran into) worthwhile connections he experienced a desire to maintain them. i think will's jerkiness is just his honesty.
