didn't work quite as well as we'd hoped

The plan was to take me out and let me drink. Because drinking makes me forget that my life is shit. But boy, nothing brings you down faster than drinking while your friends talk about nuclear aggression. I made the mistake of saying to the Romanian "What difference does it make to talk about it?" and he got in my face about Communists in his country being overthrown because of people talking about it or something. But my point was that there was little chance of myself being able to affect policy, and the policy in fact would little affect me directly, whereas losing a boy and a job did.

why the bible is crap

I did get involved in some of the discussion last night; one of the things I mentioned was the somewhat heretical view that the Jews were never slaves in Egypt. This morning I did a little research and found this reprint from Harper's March 2002. It's a pretty long article, and basically repeats McCabe's findings with respect to all of the Old Testament, but as it was written almost a hundred years later has more relevant info.

I don't know why but this cracked me up. I personally have never been with a guy over thirty so I can't say anything either way, though.

memo: put this in the sitcom

Becky walks into a sex toy store and is in awe at the number of sexual aids presented. She picks up a box, reads the back, then puts it down, frowning. She repeats this with different things, and finally sighs and takes her cell out of her purse. Calls up Lo, we only see one side of the conversation, but it is obvious that Lo is a total expert and advises her which one to pick out. She does and makes her purchase.

edit: When she gets home she immediately asks her roommate if he has any AA-batteries.
