  • Read Bourdain's new book, Medium Raw. I gotta say it's his best book since KC, he's all grown up.

  • There was a chapter on one of the contestants in season 4 of Top Chef. This was the last season I'd seen, and I barely remembered the guy, so I rewatched it. And then season 3. Then 2, I'm almost done with that.

  • This also inspired me to make my own souffle. Found a basic recipe and went for it. It was pretty damned delicious. I must say the Kitchen-Aid mixer made it almost easy to get the egg whites right. Next time I'll make creme anglais with the extra yolks, I suppose.

  • I also cooked chicken rice from Terrific Pacific, a cookbook I've honestly never used before. It's mostly authentic which means make your own curry, more or less, and I'm not as into that at the moment. But this recipe is one of the simplest ones in the book. I used short grain rice instead of long grain, just cos that's what I had - and I forgot to salt the broth before putting the chicken in, but I did for the rice itself and it was awesome. I almost wanted to just eat the rice for dinner, it was so good.

  • The weather was awful over the weekend, not very nice and very humid - but now it's my most hated weather, hot and sunny. And I forgot my hat, argh. It's really a coin toss as to which weather I hate more. At least when it's 60F and humid, it's possible to stay indoors and be comfortable. Not so much at 90F. (Not without A/C anyway.) Even as a kid I hated the sunshine and being outside in the summer, except right after a summer afternoon shower, when it cooled off. By the same token, I don't understand why people who do prefer bright hot weather live in Seattle. I once knew some folk from Vegas who moved here and bitched all winter. I was like, sheesh, go back then. And then they did of course.

  • Hung out with [livejournal.com profile] tendency and [livejournal.com profile] quent Sunday afternoon while it rained. Unfortunately she was a) leaving that night and b) suffering from a migraine. We chilled out and watched Dark Side of Oz and then Reg and Quent jammed for a while. I wanted a Snickers Ice Cream Bar but the nearest bodega didn't have them, so I had a choco-taco instead. It was kind of stale but nummy anyway.

That chicken recipe looks amazing. I'll have to try it, though I may use a cut up chicken instead of a whole one. Also, I've never poached a chicken before so I'm not quite sure what it means by making sure the chicken doesn't get boiled instead of poached.

I liked Seattle during my visit last November. It wasn't as "city-y" as I thought it would be. I would consider moving there if there were any way I could afford to buy a house.

well, the recipe I used advised the following:

  • boil for 10 minutes
  • take off the stove and let sit for 2 hours
  • plunge in cold water for 10 minutes
