I couldn't explain why but I am in a supremely good mood today. About time I guess.

I skipped dinner last night and was therefore very hungry this morning, especially after Scootering from the bus stop to my office. Some dude complimented my transportation choice and held the door open for me without even glancing to see if I had a badge. I still opened my coat to show him, though. Anyway, I microwaved five sausages and wolfed them down, and I've also been slowly drinking a Sobe Lizard Lava (Strawberry Daiquiri) on ice.

Last night I went to see Broken Embraces at the Egyptian. I've watched probably 98% of Almodóvar's films, from his crazy super-underground beginnings to his more dramatic strong-women and now his super wonderful beautiful creations. This one wasn't his best but it was still really enjoyable. A little meta, too, being as it was about a screenwriter/director. The majority of the film was about a film he was making starring Penelope Cruz. It's kind of awesome to see how lovely she is, after having watched her for so long, starting in like 1995? Yeah, damn. The point is she used to be all waify and while she's still slender, she looks more like a woman and less gamine. And there were so many guest spots of his regulars, and a lot of wackiness from the early films put in too. Still, people who hadn't seen all his films liked it as well.

I'm excited to see it. His movies are so sticky on the mind.

I know exactly what you mean about Penelope Cruz. The earliest thing I saw her in was Belle Epoque, where her underdeveloped face didn't have quite the detail of subsequent films, yet she was still remarkably beautiful. Later, in Volver, I had the same impression as you... I thought I could see signs of her aging, and it was nice to see her in a more voluptuous, maternal role for a change. But like two years later she played a young woman in Elegy and she was flawless. It's kind of amazing to see.
