There's a new park that has been slowly being built, finally finished this spring, a few blocks up on 17th. When we came home yesterday, we were surprised that no kids were hanging out there, till I saw a couple of guys with full shopping carts and a mini-hibatchi bbq-ing. There goes the neighborhood.

with the new exclusion zone at Bergen Park, Marvin's Garden & Ballard Commons they've all been pushed out of downtown and into the neighborhoods. From what I've heard, the Gilman Park area is practically a campground. I saw some kids playing in the park while the two dudes sat on the concrete couches and read the paper.

That explains it. Although even those parks never had that many bums either. The old bowling alley area was pretty heavy.

same here, I never had a problem with bums in any of those areas. i believe (from what i read on various blogs) that a collection of downtown business owners pushed for the exclusion zone. as long as they don't have to see it, they don't give a fuck.
