it's a virus
Jun. 10th, 2009 04:08 pmReg stayed home from work yesterday and the doctor told him he needed 2 days of bedrest, and recommended against backpacking this weekend. We will probably do a much shorter hike if necessary but I really really want to go. And we've been getting a little better.
Reg gathered up everything he wanted to sell to Second Ascent, and carried the backpack with all of it in it. He managed to trade the pack and a few other things for $95 credit, and he got an Osprey Atmos 25 pack (small, but he has a bad back) and a Platypus Hoser, and a Petzel headlamp (identical to mine). I got a few OR ditty bags for us and a sweet Smartwool tee for myself. We practiced packing all of our stuff again, and basically fit everything with room to spare in our 46L and 25L bags. Even with full water containers!
I took a nap afterwards and then bussed up to cap hill to meet
dearnana for dinner. I thought that a sustaining dinner of cow meat would hit the spot, and it did. Elysian makes a hella tasty burger. And it was rad to hang out with Katie again. Afterwards she wanted to see if the local liquor store stocked limencello, although not to buy immediately. They did, but some asshole teenagers were loitering outside, and the clerk yelled at us for trying to buy them liquor. I had almost wanted to buy a riesling but she absolutely refused to sell us anything. We kept insisting we didn't know those kids, but I guess we looked shady or something. I was incredibly pissy about it but what can you do?
I walked back down Pine to 1st so I could bus home, but the bus had no AC so it was kind of hellish. And it stopped too often to build up a breeze. Fortunately Reg had bought Frozen Fruit Bars, which I gladly indulged in. Helped my throat too.
