is this a movie?

My mother used to watch scary thrillers and tell me about them. Like the one about the family of cannibals, or the one with Jeremy Irons as twins, or this one where a woman escaped her husband who locked her up and then killed him. Well, anyway, I have this feeling that she told me about a movie once - or maybe I just read a Neil Gaiman story - where these dudes broke into someone's house and the owner of the house was not only home, but a terrible sadist, and ended up torturing them horribly. (I know that I've read a short story where these hitchhikers got picked up by a woman, and they tried to scare her into thinking they were going to rape/kill her, but she ended up scaring the shit out of them instead.) Does anyone know??

edit: I really don't mean Home Alone, guys.
