Air stagnation advisory in effect until 10 PM PDT Saturday... Highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s.

I was looking around for camping areas where it wouldn't be as bad, but the problem is the RAIN IS RETURNING after 10pm saturday. Which is nice for bringing down temps, but balls when you're camping. East of the mountains it won't rain, of course, but 100☼ temps are not something I ever want to have to deal with again.

In other news, I was listening to the Depeche Mode song "Agent Orange" this morning and it made me happy. Well, not happy. It dials straight through my soul and syncs up because of its resonant emotional frequency. (If you haven't heard the song, imagine early ultra-gothy Cure done all minimalistic and synthy and no vocals. And then just listen to it, ok, so you can understand me.)

(Contrast: Spacemen 3's first album, and live sets, do make me happy, because it's a place I want to be, rather than a place I'm all too familiar with.)

Explain the ac denial to me. Please, if I could only understand.

And people accept having ac at their workplaces but deny the need for it where they sleep because why?

I can't speak for people, but my apartment is one of the most temperature-neutral places I've ever lived. If I could get a 30 minute commute I wouldn't dream of ever moving. It's in the shade almost all day and really doesn't get hot in the summer - and stays relatively warm in the winter.

However this is the first summer since I've lived here where there's been more than one week of 80+ temperatures. When I was dating Joel, I lived in a house with 2 other people, and during those seven days, we hung out in the basement a lot and stayed pretty cool, but if we ever went upstairs we died, especially because it faced west. But we'd have had to get 3 A/Cs to cool it off. The house basically sucked, it was pretty hard to keep warm in the winter too.

most residences in the NW don't have AC. it's only hot enough to warrant it for maybe 4-6 weeks out of the year on average, and that's not enough to justify buying and installing a unit for a lot of people. and when you move, you just have to do it all over again.

I already owe the power company $469; I do not need to owe them more. I am perfectly happy trading the luxurious comfort of an air-conditioned habitation for a few dollars saved on my electric bill, which I won't pay until the one that says WARNING comes, and if I make a totally inefficient and carpet-soaking swampcooler by putting a giant pot of ice water in front of one of the two huge fans i keep running at all times I can pretend it's getting cooler.

It takes a long time to make enough ice to fill that pot using two ice trays, let me tell you.

I suspected that the explanation was "people in the PNW are hopeless debtridden slackers" so thank you for this confirmation.

Install AC and it will work for you, just like it worked for Lee Kuan Yew.

in 1949 my mom's house was the only one in the parish with central A/C. none of the DORMITORIES AT DUKE built before 1990 had A/C either, except for kids who got medical exemptions to allow window units.
