It's more than the history that's listed there. All animals are attracted to booze. Cows. Monkeys.

The presence of alcohol means the absence of a lot of bacteria (staph for one) and other pathogens. It's a safer source of water than... water.

Alcoholism means surviving continuous intoxication and occasional alcohol poisoning long enough to be able to breed & raise the kids until their old enough to take care of themselves.
