My bus this morning was cancelled due to its wipers not working. Call me a jerk but I would think CHECKING WIPERS would be a priority in a Seattle fall. I totally made my seatmate laugh by muttering "Good thing it hardly rains here."

Yesterday was a full on collapse, not at all sure why except maybe lack of caffeine. But seriously I usually have strong Sat. evening blues when I get real ragin' on the weekend, and I totally didn't this weekend. So that's all I can think of. It was resolved, more or less, by making ginger pork stirfry and watching season 2 of The Office. (It was even weirder b/c I woke up reasonably early and went for a walk and then bought much-needed dishware at Fred Meyer.)

Saturday I made ciabatta (ran out of flour so no sourdough yet) and watched Ratatouille, which was fun what with the kitchen/chef lit I've been reading. We then went to see Helio Sequence (who were pretty good live, except we had the misfortune to stand next to their biggest fan, who danced like a spastic) and Minus the Bear. We left before the end of the show, but it was pretty good. I have pics from my new camphone* which I will upload later.

Friday I read Pain Killer, which is supposed to be about the OxyContin epidemic in rural Appalachia, but really was about what an evil company Purdue is. It really annoyed the crap out of me for several reasons. One, I wanted more True Addict stories, not ranting about evil drug companies. Guess what, lots of companies sell shit that hits the pleasure center specifically so they can make money, and none of them admit to it. Till they get sued or whatever.

And of course I reject the idea that being addicted to something in itself makes you a bad person. Being addicted to Oxy doesn't make Rush Limbaugh a bad person. (I mean, you know, more than he already is.) He didn't bust any liquor stores or steal from his mom's wallet. He didn't quit going to work - he managed to annoy even more moderates and left-wing people during his opiated years.

Overdoses went up, but even the author blames Purdue for this, for not labeling the drug properly. Of course almost all of these overdoses were polydrug, and almost no one gave a shit, except for the docs in Appalachia. I am all in favor of excessive warnings on drugs, or even classes/seminars, but then I also don't think Pharma deserves the monopoly. The only reason this drug was abused was because Purdue flooded the market. (Well, and ok, really high doses of oxycodone. But if a drug isn't supplied, it can't be used.)

I'm going to stop before I really go off on a rant, anyway.
