I found myself laughing hardest at the speaking in tongues scene. Then shribble nudged me and pointed out that the theater was otherwise almost silent and motionless. To me, that's were comedy becomes art.
I liked it, though I also expected better. I think the storyline scenes slowed the laughs down a lot. I guess a storyline makes a movie easier to make, and the budget might have constrained the shooter of more scenes.
Still, how many better comedy movies have you seen in the past few years? I haven't seen many, so I'm reduced to begging for suggestions.
I never go to the movies, so I am a poor person to ask, but the funniest movie I've seen "recently" (i.e. in the last couple of years) was "40-year-old virgin."
He himself isn't all that funny -- almost Jim Carrey-esque in his not-funnyness and obnoxiousness. But, he does have some great ideas!
While on tour with the most high-profile blues band I've yet played with, my roommate and I saw the "Throw The Jew Down The Well" episode when it first came out and found it beyond-hysterical. As the band van pulled up to the backstage entrance, we were all singing the song until the doors opened (and I played a bit of it during one of my solos).
I think I wrote about that when it happened, but the last 2 years have been long.
